LPU Violence: 3 FIRs Registered, 8-Member SIT Formed to Probe Unrest

Punjab Police have registered three FIRs following the violence at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara and constituted an eight-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident.According to police, the FIRs relate to allegations including attempt to murder, assault on police personnel, robbery and property damage.The violence erupted after unverified reports circulated online alleging that an outsider had raped a female student. Police and other authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the subsequent unrest.

Internet services in the area were restored after a temporary 24-hour suspension.

The Punjab & Haryana High Court has also directed the Punjab government and police to submit a status report concerning the violence and the social-media post linked to the unrest.

Police investigators are examining CCTV footage and other digital evidence as part of the probe.
