Haryana Government Hospitals to Get Performance-Based Incentives for Doctors and Staff

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has announced performance-based incentives for doctors, support staff and Ayushman Mitras working in government hospitals, with higher patient footfall among the factors being considered.

The decision was announced by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini during a review meeting of the Health Department at the Haryana Civil Secretariat. The government has approved a proposal to use funds received through the Ayushman Bharat and Chirayu schemes for staff incentives, hospital upgrades, sanitation work and support for Ayushman Mitras.

The government also plans to expand the number of treatment packages available under the Ayushman scheme in government hospitals.

One of the measures announced is free treatment for diabetic retinopathy in government hospitals. The treatment, which can involve injections, is to be included under the relevant hospital package, with the government bearing the cost.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to fill vacant positions of doctors, radiologists and cardiologists.

Alongside regular recruitment, the state plans to create an open recruitment mechanism through which specialist doctors can offer services at government hospitals for selected locations and periods. Retired radiologists may also be engaged at hospitals near their residences, according to the announcement.

The government is also considering allowing specialists from private hospitals or private practice to perform operations at government hospitals, with payment based on the duration of service or individual procedures.

Another major component of the plan is digital monitoring. District hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres and sub-centres are to be brought onto a unified online platform for real-time monitoring of services ranging from patient registration and diagnostics to consultations and medicine distribution.

The government has set November 1 as the deadline for opening Amrit Pharmacies in all government hospitals.

The measures are aimed at increasing utilisation of public healthcare facilities and improving monitoring and availability of services across Haryana.
